dinner with the garden

Tonight I will be making a homemade soup with vegetables from my garden. I will possibly add some spices and oils that do not come from the garden, but otherwise everything will be fresh. Anna is going out to see Sex and the City 2 with the ladies - so it's hearty soup and videogames for me tonight.

I thought I would post photos of my process here on my blog...

I pulled up some early potatoes, to see how the crop was doing. I think I'll leave the rest in the ground for awhile.

Cut down some more broccoli, pulled the last carrot, and grabbed some tiny onions. The next crop of carrots was direct sown as opposed to transplanted in peat pots, so maybe they won't be so compacted.

A few more snap peas from my pea factory. I seem to get about 5 fresh ones a day....

A bunch of kale - and there is still tons more in the ground. If I have a lot of anything, its greens - I average a salad a day from the garden.

I made stock from plant parts from my garden that are too tough to eat - the only non garden thing I've added is some pepper, salt, paprika, and oil. I added some rosemary and basil to the rolling water as well, and as you can see, the kale has been lightly sauteed.

Soups on!
